How long after an artwork is created does MoMA typically acquire it, and how has this “time lag” changed over different historical periods?
How does MoMA’s artist database encode cultural power through nationality, gender, and metadata completeness, and who is made visible or invisible as a result?
Museums, to the naive eye, are seen as neutral spaces for artwork to be showcased, celebrated, and presented. This research project aims to uncover what biases and perspectives are present in the Museum of Modern Art archive, a highly influential corpus of modern artwork.
